Today was, in many ways, a holiday from our holiday. We did nothing touristy and did not start the car once. Instead we woke up leisurely, then lay in bed watching the sun rise and the ducks diving for food in the river.
Whilst drinking our cups of tea in bed we rang Mick's mother and mine to see how things are in the UK, and to say Happy Mother's Day in advance (well, it was Sunday here!).
After a salmon omelette for breakfast Mick spoke to our landlord and arranged for us to borrow two of his neighbour's kayaks. These were left ready for us on the bank, and after posting yesterday's blog we wandered along the river and launched ourselves into the water.
It was fun on the river. We played in the small rapids for a while, then floated along listening to the birds and trying to spot fish. After an hour or so we returned the kayaks, then investigated the outside bath on our terrace. It had running hot water, so I had a nice soak, with a beer and book until it was time for lunch.
The afternoon was spent reading books and generally relaxing, though we were surprised by a small earthquake at around 4 pm! The house shook slightly, as did the heavy tiled table in the terrace.
Eventually we roused ourselves enough to BBQ some chicken and corn for dinner, which we ate sitting outside, closely watched by our landlord's dog, 'Frog'. The wind had increased and it was slightly cool so now we are indoors, about to investigate if we can watch the qualifying rounds of the Australian Grand Prix. Tomorrow we have to be up early ready for our ride on the Forgotten World railway.

What a fine spot for a relaxing day! How could you not revel in all this pastoral beauty? You may have even had seismic tremors before, but you probably didn't notice them in your whirl of activity.
ReplyDeleteI think Frog is a mirror image of me every time I catch up on your blog 😄 - definitely a dynamic duo.
